About Kate McGuinness

Kate McGuinness is a certified coach, author and speaker who works with clients looking to step up to leadership positions, wanting to improve their job performance, and wanting a new job, a new career or a new way to thrive in today’s demanding workplace. She was a former partner at O’Melveny & Myers when Times Mirror Company, then a Fortune 200 corporation, recruited her to act as its Vice President and General Counsel.

Kate also serves as a keynote speaker and as a workshop trainer. She has spoken at programs sponsored by the National Association of Women Lawyers, California Women Lawyers, the Practicing Law Institute, South Carolina Women Lawyers, and other organizations. She is a former member of the board of California Women Lawyers and the Santa Barbara Women Lawyers Association. Kate volunteers with Storyteller Children’s Center and was one of the founders of Big Sisters of Los Angeles.

Representative Assignments

Kate has provided individual coaching services to a number of attorneys, including lawyers from Skadden Arps, Winston Strawn, Wilson Sonsini and the Director of a local Legal Aid.

Additional Experience

Prior to certification as an executive coach, Kate practiced law at O’Melveny & Myers and served as Vice President and General Counsel at Times Mirror Company.

After leaving the corporate world, she studied writing and penned the legal thriller Terminal Ambition which pivots on a woman partner’s campaign to obtain fair treatment for the women at her Big Law firm. Kate has also addressed other aspects of women’s rights in essays published on sites such as Forbes, The Guardian, and The Huffington Post.  She also recently authored a nonfiction book for women Confidence Lost / Confidence Found: How to Reclaim the Unstoppable You. The book helps readers boost their confidence by increasing eight attitudes such as assertiveness. It also provides tools to minimize five self-sabotaging behaviors such as perfectionism that erode confidence.
